Women’s Work: London is a beautifully drawn and annotated map that celebrates the contribution of women in shaping the capital. The map tells the story of built projects in which women have played a pivotal role.

The map seeks to address the fact that throughout history, people who self-identify as women have not been granted equal recognition to that of men. Women-led work has been missed out of publications and educational resources, and has been less equitably promoted by architectural foundations and design institutes.

There are countless projects that could have been featured. This map is a provocation sharing an inspiring selection, chosen from crowdsourced nominations and reviewed by Part W and a panel of independent experts: Stephanie Edwards, Laura Mark, Adam Nathaniel Furman and Deborah Broomfield. The projects featured recognise the collaborative nature of design – challenging the notion that buildings are the result of a single genius figurehead. Instead, we have chosen to highlight the diverse ecology of expertise and creativity that shapes London. The map celebrates the intersectional work of gender-diverse architects, engineers, builders, clients, landscape designers, campaigners and activists.
